June 26, 2010 – Saturday: Bear Creek Half Marathon at Briones regional park

For now, I got a summary here. But, I will write more and in detail later on.

Divs, Dwarak, Nanda and I got up early, got ready and set off at 6 to the Briones Regional park for the Bear Creek half marathon.

We got there by 7:15 – and found a cozy, little racing set-up. Everything was in place – registration, bib pick-up, tshirt pick-up, start line – and had a very comfortable air about it. We were all excited and fun.

The race itself was run on beautiful trails; extremely picturesque with great views – but was grueling! The hills – up and down – were extreme. Phew! As Dwarak said – it was more a hike than a run. We were walking/ climbing more often than running. It was seriously tough. The aid stations were fantastic – really great support for a small race.

Finished the half in 2:36. Nanda, who ran the 10k, and Divs were there at the finish to cheer me in :-) , and all 3 of us cheered Dwarak in. Ate whatever we could get there, and drove back. We were back home by 11:37 (we knew the exact time thanks to a bet that we had in the car :-) )

Some pictures:

Nanda – ebullient as ever

Me, struggling through at around the 11th or 12th mile:

Dwarak coming through at the same point:

By the way, the roads in which these pictures were taken seem to suggest that the trails were like this all the way. So, just to correct that anomaly, here is a picture of how it was for most of the route:

Ok, so will describe the trail and the run in a more detailed run report later on.

It looks like a great place for a run. Nicely done with the photos.
